What Makes Our School Unique?

Thank you for your interest in W.H. Oliver Middle School, where character development and citizenship are every bit as much a priority as learning to read and write. William Henry Oliver was a teacher, principal and superintendent in the Nashville City Schools. He was known for instilling citizenship in his students and promoting excellence in academics and community service.
At Oliver Middle School, parents and teachers work together to create a learning environment that empowers students with the knowledge and skills to become successful and productive citizens. Oliver Middle School has a very active PTA that works to provide funds for instuctional materials and incentives for students, as well as for our teachers.
At W.H. Oliver Middle School, we believe:
        All children can learn.
Parents play an essential part in their child's education.
All stake holders should be involved in decision making and policy development for our school.
We should provide a safe and secure learning environment to ensure student success.
We should develop and maintain high academic standards for all students.
There is a positive correlation between student learning and attendance in school.
Continual assessments should be used to design instruction.

Who Attends Our School?

Students attending Oliver live in the southernmost area of Davidson County and are zoned to Overton High School. The elementary schools in the Overton cluster are: Norman Binkley, Crieve Hall, Granbery, Haywood, Shayne and Tusculum. Middle schools are Croft Design Center, McMurray and W.H. Oliver.

Community Partners

Oliver is very fortunate to have an active Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Our parents, teachers and staff work together to promote the success of every student. Our PTA is organizing an Invest in Your Child campaign to raise money for technology and other instructional materials for our students and teachers. Other fundraising activities are "Box Tops for Education," cell phone and printer cartridge recycling and Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough sales.
