What Makes Our School Unique?
The MLK Program emphasizes scientific research, mathematics and an advanced placement curriculum, which are designed to give students a competitive edge in post-secondary institutions. Students are required to take 6 courses and an independent study per semester. The MLK student matriculates through six years of mathematics and science, inclusive of physics and AP Calculus.
The rigorous four-year engineering program integrates mathematics and science in a state of the art computer lab. MLK students design and present award-winning engineering projects.
Although MLK emphasizes math and science, its curriculum is very diverse. MLK offers an array of Advanced Placement courses. MLK has been recognized as being one of the nation's Top 100 Schools by "The Washington Post" and "US News & World Report."

Who Attends Our School?
Students are required to have scored 85 or above average for the spring semester of the previous year and the 1st and 2nd quarters of the current school year with no failing grades. Also, current Metro students must have achievement test scores advanced in both math and reading and non-Metro students must have reading and math stanine scores on a norm-referenced achievement test equaling 14 or above (no rounding). Students attending Rose Park and Head Magnet who have maintained the proper standards automatically feed into MLK.
