Our department’s mission is to support the strategic goals of the Board of Education and help schools meet their accountability standards and goals. We fulfill this mission through the following three areas of responsibility:
- Assessment: managing national, state, and district-wide assessments. This includes preparing schools for test administration, distributing and collecting materials, and processing assessment data. Our goal is to ensure that parents, students, teachers, and schools maximize the usefulness of assessment results to increase student learning. Towards the fulfillment of this goal, our department serves as the primary data archivist and analyst for MNPS and provides ongoing training and support to district and school staffs on effective use of data for improving instruction.
- Evaluation: serve as an evaluative resource for school and district leadership. This ranges from preparing policy briefs on existing research literature to conducting evaluative studies of MNPS programs.
- Research: conducts research projects of interest to district leadership and partners with external researchers desiring to conduct research within MNPS. Our department ensures that all research respects student and parent confidentiality, follows the highest ethical standards, and returns policy benefits to MNPS.
