On Monday, November 1, students at Stratford High School were given a new avenue to stay involved in school and get the most out of their after school time. The Martha O'Bryan center opened the Top Floor @ Stratford, a 5,000 square foot after-school center that is really so much more.
The Top Floor is a café, computer lab, and recording studio; it is leadership development, job skills training, and ACT prep; it provides classes in film editing, photography, and mixed media art; it is financial literacy, job training, and life skill seminars; it is a space where Stratford students can use iPads, jump on the Internet, and play video games; it provides college counseling, homework help, and tutoring in math, science, reading, writing, and Spanish.
The Top Floor is a space where student needs and interests meet. It provides free food, field trips, and financial stipends. It is more than an after-school program. It is an academic muse mixing culturally relevant programming with hope, enrichment, and opportunities for success.
Stratford alumnus Milton Johnson, Chief Financial Officer at HCA Healthcare, kicked off the renovation with a generous gift. Watch the video below to see inside The Top Floor @ Stratford.
