teachers and leaders

There is nothing more pivotal to the academic success of students than the quality and effectiveness of their teachers and school leaders. The Tennessee Department of Education is implementing several First to the Top (FTTT) initiatives focused on the development of exemplary teachers and leaders, including a new evaluation system for teachers and principals, partnerships with higher education institutions, evaluations for teacher preparation programs and the expansion and development of expedited licensure and alternative education programs. To read more about some of these initiatives, including the TELL Tennessee survey recently administered to all teachers in the State of Tennessee to assess teachers’ working conditions, visit: http://tn.gov/firsttothetop/programs.html.

MNPS is also focused on developing exemplary teachers and leaders through reform initiatives focused on creating leadership opportunities for excellent teachers, developing the capacity of school leaders, and providing teachers and principals with the support and resources necessary to meet the challenges of a large, diverse urban school district. Our Race to the Top-funded initiatives focused on teachers and leaders include the following:
